Students with Maui connection graduate

The following students with ties to Maui County have earned degrees at colleges and universities:

MANOA - Three students with Maui County ties received their law degrees and Native Hawaiian Law Certificates from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law at graduation ceremonies May 15.

The certificate demonstrates that a student has a specialized understanding of Native Hawaiian law. Fifteen law school graduates received the certificates; the Maui County students were:

Kaho‘ohalahala

Ha'aheo Kaho'ohalahala, who is from Lanai and traveled around the state with law professor Kapua Sproat to educate rural and farming communities about state water law. She also worked with Hawaiian immersion and charter school students to teach legal issues.

Sarah Kaopuiki, who is from Lanai and spent two summers and a semester working in Washington, D.C., with the U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee. She also interned at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Kekoa Keiley, from Hana, who spent a summer working at the Native Hawaiian Legal Corp. HE also tutored law students weekly on property law.

GREELEY, Colo. - Mandy Helen Santos, of Haiku, has graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with her doctorate in audiology.

She is the daughter of Jordan and Carlene Santos and a 2003 graduate of St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Thomas Charles O'Malley, of Pukalani, has graduated with a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Penn State University's Smeal School of Business.

He is the son of Kevin and Leslie O'Malley, of Pukalani, and a 2007 graduate of Seabury Hall.

Commencement exercises were held at the school May 15.

HOUSTON - Kimo Spector, of Kihei, has graduated from Rice University in commencement ceremonies held May 14.

He received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Jordan Bosque has graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University

He also received a certificate in electric power engineering at spring commencement April 30.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Zoe Harran, of Pukalani, has graduated from Bowdoin College with a bachelor's degree in gender and women's studies and psychology.

The college's 206th commencement exercises were held May 28.
