Five lovely hopefuls will compete, but only one will be chosen Saturday when the Maui Filipino Community Council presents the 52nd annual Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Lahaina.
Contestants Erika Sablay, Diane Lajorda, Shelby Bantilan, Melissa Rabino and Tiffany Silva will take part in five phases of competition: a prepageant interview, swimsuit, talent, speech and onstage interview.
The theme of the pageant is "Education is the Essence of Progress."
Miss Maui Filipina 2011 will receive a $1,500 scholarship award and a trip to the Philippines, along with the opportunity to represent Maui in the Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant in July.
Tickets are $25 in advance through Friday and $30 at the door. For details, call pageant director Michelle Santos at 264-0871 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
