The Maui News

LAHAINA - A series of training sessions for the volunteer Makai Watch Program will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Maui Senior Center at 788 Pauoa St. in Lahaina.

The training will feature a newly standardized Makai Watch volunteer incident observation and reporting program targeted toward volunteers interested in assisting the state Department of Land and Natural Resources to effectively manage Hawaii's nearshore marine resources as serving as observers for the department.

To RSVP for the free training event, contact Liz Foote at Lfoote@coral.org or call 669-9062.

The program is a partnership of government and nonprofit organizations whose goal is to enhance the management of nearshore marine resources by providing community members opportunities for direct involvement in management activities.

For more information on the training series or the program, call Jan Yoshioka at (808) 780-8379 or send email to jan@hcsnetwork.org.
