OBON FESTIVAL KICKS OFF AT KAHULUI JODO
Kahului Jodo Mission will hold its obon festival this weekend, starting with a service at 7 p.m. Bon dancing will follow, with a performance by Maui Taiko. Food concessions will include plate lunch, laulau, chow fun, shave ice and more. Kahului Jodo Mission is located at 325 Laau St. near Maui High School.

MAUI OKINAWAN FEST STARTS AT MAUI MALL
Get an authentic Okinawan experience during the Maui Okinawan Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Maui Mall, featuring isle-favorite and funny woman Kathy Collins as emcee. With the theme of "Hashi Kakiin" (Building Bridges), the free fest, presented by The Maui Okinawan Kenjin Kai and co-sponsor Maui Mall, will feature Okinawan music and dance performed by homegrown talent, as well as Oahu-based performers. Taiko and sanshin players, as well as martial arts demonstration, will also take the stage. Cultural, historical and educational displays, a craft fair, photo taking and lots of food will be offered.
