Obon celebration starts today in Kahului

KAHULUI - Kahului Jodo Mission will hold obon services and dancing tonight and Saturday.

Services will begin at 7 p.m., led by minister John Hara, followed by dancing at 8 p.m. both days.

The celebration will also include chicken hekka, chili with hot dog, laulau, hamburger steak, chow fun, hot dogs, okoshi, shave ice, soft drinks and coffee for sale. Girl Scout Troops 902, 930 and 718 will also run games for children both nights.

The temple is located at 325 Laau St.

Psychic fair set for July 2 in Haiku

HAIKU - Temple of Peace will hold a psychic fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 2.

The event will include an opportunity to have an aura photo taken.

The Temple of Peace is located at 575 Haiku Road.

Evening of praise and prayer tonight

KULA - Waipuna Chapel will host "An Evening of Praise and Prayer with Austin and Jessica Meshell."

The event will be at 7 p.m. today at the chapel, located at 17 Omaopio Road.

Currently involved with the Pukalani School of Supernatural Ministry, "this brother and sister team have been gifted with prophetic music that takes a believer on a journey that melts worship and prayer together in a continuous flow," according to a release.

Two tent camps for children offered

HAIKU - Haiku Bible Church and Paipala Bible Church are sponsoring two tent camps for students in June and July.

The first will begin Sunday and run through Thursday. This camp is for those who have finished 2nd through 5th grade. Cost is $90.

The second session will be from July 1 through 4 and is for those who have completed grades six through nine. This session costs $50.

Both camps will be held at Haiku Bible Church. The cost includes a camp T-shirt, transportation to the beach, crafts, food and snacks. Other activities include Bible study, group Bible lessons, sports activities, hikes, swimming and an evening message. All campers need their own tent.
