KAHULUI - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency is currently accepting nominations for eligible candidates to serve on the Maui County Farm Service Agency County Committee.
The nomination period runs through Aug. 1.
This year, the Local Administrative Area 2 will be electing a representative to the committee. LAA 2 consists of all ranches and farms located on Maui from south and southwest of Kuihelani Highway, Hana Highway and Haleakala Highway. It also includes the communities of Kula, Omaopio, Kihei, Pukalani,Ulupalakua, Kanaio, Kahikinui, Kaupo and Kipahulu.
If one's farm is located in one of the areas, one may be eligible to be a candidate or voter.
Contact the USDA Maui County FSA office at 871-5500 ext. 2 to be added to the slate of candidates or confirm one's voting eligibility.
Eligible farmers or ranchers may request a ballot from FSA if they don't receive one in the mail.
To be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA; be eligible to vote in a county committee election; and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate.
