AKAKU CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE
Maui's community television station, Akaku, holds a free Independance Celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. in its parking lot at 333 Dairy Road. PAIA'S OBON FESTIVAL WITH FOOD, DANCING
Paia Mantokuji Mission Obon Festival, a colorful Japanese cultural event, starts with a service at 6, taiko drumming at 7:15 and dancing at 8 p.m. Obon is an annual summer festival held at Buddhist temples in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. KE'ANAE KEIKI JAM FEST KICKING OFF
Ke'anae Keiki Jam Fest will feature entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and a keiki area with family activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Keanae Peninsula Park. Entertainment includes special guest Lei'ohu Ryder, Teomon & the Kryptones, Pekelo, Ka Pa O Ka Ulu Koa Keiki Hula Halau, Inside Out and Jah Residence. The Keiki Zone includes horse rides, train rides, bouncy castles, face painting, shave ice, popcorn and more. SUSTAINABLE ALOHA FEST AT AKL IN KULA
Entertainment, activities and education abound at the Sustainable Aloha Summer Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alii Kula Lavender farm in Kula. The event will celebrate the life and legacy of AKL's founder, farmer and visionary Alii Chang, and will feature performances by Emma Veary, Paula Fuga, George Kahumoku and Brother Noland. There will also be a performance by halau Wehiwehi o Leilehua, directed by kumu hula Gordean Bailey, and a spirited show by Isle of Maui Pipe Band. A range of interactive activities to educate while encouraging more sustainable living will be offered. Admission will be $3 per person; children 5 and younger are free. HEALTHY LIVING THE FOCUS OF ISLE FAIR
