September 1, 2011
The Maui News
> Calling all FABRIC fiends: To miss the “Couture Hawai‘i Fashion Show” would be a fashion faux pas. Hosted by Andy South, contemporary fashion designer and Season 8 finalist in Bravo TV’s “Project Runway,” the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s event at 6 p.m. Saturday will unveil the latest collection of aloha wear and couture apparel from well-known Hawaii designers. The fashion show is being held in conjunction with the “Alfred Shaheen: Fabric to Fashion” exhibition at Schaefer International Gallery (for details, see In View on Page 17); it will kick off with vintage Shaheen dresses and aloha shirts and will feature fashions from Maui’s Maggie Coulombe and Bernard Foong, and Oahu’s Anne Namba, along with other designers. Also, a small student collection from the University of Hawaii Maui College's Couture Club will be shown. Shop for fashion and accessories made in Hawaii, purchase catered appetizers and beverages, then dance to music by DJ CIA during the after-party. Tickets are available at the MACC box office for $35 general admission and $100 VIP package. Call 242-7469 or go online to MauiArts.org.
