Donors give riflery team boost with new equipment

September 15, 2011
The Maui News
Former Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares gets air riflery lessons from St. Anthony High School senior Kaycie Pico during an unveiling ceremony at the school’s practice range Wednesday. The team received 13 new rifles and supplies from individual donors, each totaling $350 worth of equipment. “I know what these athletes go through, especially the minor sports,” said Tavares, one of the donors and a former teacher and athletic director before serving as mayor. “The minor sports always struggle to get the right equipment and supplies and it’s hard on them. So when we can help out the teams, we like to be behind them and support what they're doing.”
