MAUNALOA, Molokai - Fire crews were dousing hot spots Friday night after fighting to contain a brush fire that broke out in Maunaloa.
Fire officials said around 15 to 20 acres were burned in the blaze that started around 6:33 p.m. near the intersection of Kaluakoi Road and Hauakea Avenue. The fire was declared 100 percent contained at 8:25 p.m. but was not yet under control.
Officials said all available firefighters, including those who were off duty, had been called in to battle the blaze, including Engine 9, Engine 4 and Engine 12. County water tankers and a county bulldozer assisted with the effort.
No structures were burned and nobody was injured in the fire, which temporarily closed Kaluakoi Road.
