Maui native Lee Cataluna, award-winning author and playwright, will read from her works during An Evening with Lee Cataluna at 6:30 tonight at Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater. For details, see Backstage.

JOAN SORIANO, BAND BRING BEAT TO MACC

Born in the rural countryside of the Dominican Republic, Joan Soriano, a practitioner of palo and gaga, will blend traditional with new in his world beat music at 7:30 tonight at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Yokouchi Pavilion. Soriano and his band infuse steel string bachata with equal parts romance and grit. He is the star of Adam Taub's The Duke of Bachata, was featured in Alex Wolfe's critically acclaimed documentary, "Santo Domingo Blues," and has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. SPOOKY ONO SERIES AT THE IAO THEATER

There are no excuses to miss free entertainment. That is, unless you're afraid. Two thrilling tales of mystery and ghostly encounters will emerge during Maui OnStage's ONO series, which offers free entertainment at the Historic Iao Theater on the second Monday of the month. This time, play readings for "Sorry, Wrong Number," a mystery thriller of a neurotic invalid whose only contact with the outside world is her phone, and "The Hitch-Hiker," a ghost thriller out of American folklore, will start at 6:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted.
