WAILEA - A Wailea woman who set out this summer trying to gather the photos of all Maui County soldiers who died when fighting in Vietnam has accomplished her mission.
Janna Hoehn has found the photographs of 42 soldiers; she originally started looking only for 27.
The photos are now posted on the virtual wall (on the website: www.vvmf.org/thewall) for The Education Center at The Wall, a learning facility under construction near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington.
Wailea resident Janna Hoehn has found the photographs of 42 Maui County soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. The photographs will be displayed with those of other fallen soldiers at a learning facility under construction in Washington, D.C. Hoehn is taking this display to community groups and schools on Maui.
It was conceived of as a way to put faces to the thousands of names on the memorial, to educate current and future generations about the men and women who died and to tell their stories.
With the help of local businesses, Hoehn has a moving display of all the 42 soldiers' photos and has been taking them around to different community events.
Those who would like to see and learn about the display should call Paul Laub at 442-2450 or send email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
