SADDLE UP TO MAKAWAO . . . This Friday, paniolo country will be jumping from 5 to 8 p.m. with the first Makawao Town Party that will run every third Friday of the month. Listen to live music and get food deals everywhere.

Makawao Steak House will offer $2 off pupu from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and it will open the former Tea Room in the back to show it off as a great place to host holiday parties for 25 to 42 people.

Up the street, Casanova Deli will be celebrating its 25th anniversary, and as part of the fun it will sell $2 pizza slices and $5 pasta plates.

"The deli is the unsung hero of Casanova," says owner Giovanni Steven Cappelli. "The chef has been there so long, from day one, he's like the furniture. In fact, Giovan "Rishi" Sarto has created a lot of the design elements that make up the deli."

At On Core Studio, enjoy Maui kombucha drinks, raw chocolates and complimentary 30-minute wellness sessions. At Paradise Salon, taste desserts by Cake Walk Bakery. Pink By Nature Boutique will serve drinks, desserts and hors d'oeuvres and offer 10 percent off trendy store items. Collections will have a drawing every hour as well as serve libations and goodies.

Antique Boutique will offer refreshments and discounts. You may also enjoy Outrigger Pizza near the center stage in town, check out farm-raised produce at Market Fresh Bistro, eat doughnuts at Komoda's, sushi and snacks at Rodeo General Store, and seek out the secret al fresco area at Garden Cafe. BITS AND PIECES . . . Heading to East Maui? Travaasa Hana (former Hotel Hana-Maui) will partner with the acclaimed Turley Wine Cellars of Napa Valley for a memorable weekend.

On Saturday, enjoy an evening with Larry Turley as he shares his passion for wine. Savor his top vintages, as you pair them with five courses of culinary creations by hotel Executive Chef Barry Villiarimo. Cost is $85. Then on Sunday, sip and sample library wines from both Turley and others in the Chambers & Chambers portfolio along with tapas in a tasting at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $40. Just add tax and gratuity to both events.

"For the Sunday reception, we'll be pouring direct import library wines that are not available in market settings," says Jim Powlan, wine educator of Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants. "Wines from Germany, Italy and France and a couple Turley selections. I hear Travaasa will offer special room rates for the weekend. For more details, call the resort at 248-8211."

Leis Family Class Act Restaurant at UH-Maui College in Kahului will present a special tasting journey from 5:30 to 7:30 this evening, with Muscovy duck confit and more. Call 984-3367.

Every third Thursday of November, the first beaujolais nouveau of the season is shipped from France in a race around the world to specific locations.

Hana Hou Cafe in Haiku will receive its shipment and will throw a party Friday evening. "It will be a fun-filled evening with a wonderful ambience of France,' says owner Laurent Thibault, who hails from Paris. "Lydia Panzik will sing classic French songs, and we'll have delicious French cuisine and Georges Duboeuf 2011 beaujolais nouveau wine." Call 575-2661.

The pastry chefs at Broke Da Mouth in Kahului will be baking more than 600 pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving with hours for pick-up that day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other pie flavors include custard, sweet potato, chocolate and even sugar-free Splenda pies. Call 873-9255.

More than 100 top community leaders will be "locked up" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Lulu's Restaurant in Kihei to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy association. All of the "jailbirds" will face a judge, pose for mug shots and feast on gourmet grinds. Participating restaurant owners to be locked up include Rose Bennett of Peggy Sue's, and Jesus Ortega of Amigo's.

The fourth annual Stomp Out Hunger will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at War Memorial Gym in Wailuku. The goal is to raise $50,000 in prize donations, silent auction items or cash to feed Maui's hungry. For more details, call Sandra Ban-Martin at 250-0008.
