Lanai City inspires gingerbread town

December 8, 2011
The Maui News

Saturday, Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele will launch sweet tidings for the holidays with the debut of the Lana'i Gingerbread City.

Inspired by the charming plantation-style architecture, select boutiques, stores and art galleries in the tiny city surrounding Dole Park, Executive Pastry Chef Rabii Saber has created a rendition that will be perfect for photo opportunities.

Those on Maui may head over to Lanai for the day via the Expeditions ferry out of Lahaina and pay the hotel for shuttle service to the cool Lodge at Koele.

Saturday's festivities will also include an official tree-lighting ceremony, keiki cookie decorating station, and complimentary hot cider and hot chocolate. All will take place in the resort's Great Hall with its magnificent fireplaces at each end.

Other edible structures and iconic Cook Island pine trees will also be available for sponsorship. Proceeds will benefit the Lana'i Community Association, a nonprofit that aids the island.

"This is a unique opportunity for visitors to give the gift of aloha to the community," says Tom Roelens, general manager of Four Seasons Resorts Lana'i. "The association will benefit from the support throughout the year and the holiday spirit will continue indefinitely, not just in December."
