KAILUA-KONA - Renny Richmond continued to pile on the titles at the state age-group short course championships Sunday at Kona Community Aquatic Center. But it was his Lahaina Swim Club teammate who made history.
Ridge Altman set a Hawaii state record in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of 1 minute, 49.23 seconds in the boys 17-18 final. He broke the previous record of 1:49.68 set by Hongzhe Sun of Iolani in 2003.
Richmond finished second in the 200 IM (1:50.94), but won the 100 freestyle in an age-group record time of 45.12 and beat out Altman and Joshua Gaastra in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.42. The Lahaina trio went 1-2-3 in the event.
They ended the day teaming with Alex Armstrong to win the 200 medley relay in 1:36.92.
Richmond so far has won five individual events during the four-day meet.
Kysha Altura of Hawaii Swim Club added to her wins in the girls 11-12 division, placing first in the 50 back (29.63) and 100 free (55.30). She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
In the boys 11-12 200 medley relay, Dylan Kresge helped HSC get a win.
Also winning Sunday was Lahaina's Paris Sargent. She placed first in the 13-14 200 IM in 2:09.34.
The meet concludes today.
