Parking set up for PGA Tour event
KAPALUA - Public parking for this year's Hyundai Tournament of Champions will be at the Honua Kai Resort and Spa, event officials have announced, and will be available on Thursday, the day of the pro-am, and for all four rounds of official competition in the PGA Tour's season-opening event at the Kapalua Plantation Course, from Friday to Jan. 9.
Free shuttles will begin operating 15 minutes prior to gates opening and run throughout the day.
Also, a complementary shuttle is scheduled to run to and from Whalers Village on Sunday and Jan. 9. The shuttles from the shopping area will run every half-hour from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, and from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Jan. 9, with pickup at the benches between Whalers Village and the Westin Maui Resort and Spa. Shuttles from the course will run every half hour from 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, and from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 9.
Tickets are available at pgatour.com/tournaments/r016/tickets.html, or at kapalua.com by following the links under "golf." In advance, tickets are $15 per day or $40 for the week. At the gate, tickets will cost $20 per day or $50 for the week. The pro-am has no admission charge. Active duty, retired and reserve members of the military, and their dependents, will be admitted free every day with military identification, as will anyone 18 and under accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Fontana aces No. 7 at Elleair course
KIHEI - Earlene Fontana of Dos Palos, Calif., had a hole-in-one on Elleair Maui Golf Club's seventh hole Friday.
Fontana used a pitching wedge for the 110-yard shot, which was witnessed by Eric Fontana, Carl Van Zweeden and Bernd Freebman.
Maui 5K in April to help Maui schools
MAALAEA - The inaugural Maui 5K, a fundraiser for Maui schools' physical fitness, play and athletic programs, is scheduled for April 22 at the Maalaea Triangle.
Registration can be completed at maui5k.org for $20 per person, or via mail for $25 per person - forms can be downloaded at the event website.
