Tour Maui's splendor - from the slopes of Haleakala to the shores of West Maui - without leaving Village Gallery in Lahaina.

The gallery's first show of the year features two accomplished local plein air paintings: Michael Clements and Carleton. The show opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the 120 Dickenson St., Lahaina, gallery. It continues through Jan. 26 during gallery hours.

Also Village Galleries at Kapalua, located off the lobby at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, is offering opportunities to meet other leading Maui artists.

Print signing with Tracy Dudley from 5 to 6 p.m. and oil painting demonstrations with Macario Pascual are slated from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Oil painting demonstration by Betty Hay Freeland from 10 a.m. to noon and print signing with Fred KenKnight will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday.

Handmade island jewelry with Shauna Morrison from 2 to 4 p.m. and oil painting demonstrations by Pascual will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Maui Hands Gallery in Lahaina is highlighting the work of watercolor artist Larry Renslow this month. Meet the artist and watch his painting techniques from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays at the 612 Front St. gallery where his work is also on display. For more details, call the gallery at 667-9898.

Sargent's Fine Art, 802 Front St., will host painters Mimi Stuart and Pamela Sukhum from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, along with a portion of Sunday afternoon. Meet the artists and enjoy the music of Kurt Lee. For details, call 667-4030.

Lahaina Arts Society is featuring painter Gordon Schmuhl during the month of January. His work is on display at the Banyan Tree Gallery through Feb. 5.
