KAHULUI - "Surf's Up" under the starry night sky in a new series of free film screenings debuting Sunday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
"Starry Night Cinema" will feature films and shorts projected on a giant screen in Yokouchi Pavilion. Featuring family-friendly films, patrons are invited to bring blankets or beach chairs and watch from the A&B Amphitheater lawn.
The series kicks off with "Surf's Up," an animated mockumentary featuring the voices of Shia LaBeouf, Jeff Bridges and Zoey Deschanel, in a behind-the-scenes look at the Penguin World Surfing Championships. Jack Fisher and his surf-rock band Soundwave will play at 5 p.m., until the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Rodeo General Store will cater preshow dining with drink specials also on sale.

In February, the heartwarming true story "Dolphin's Tale" will screen, featuring Hana's Kris Kristofferson in a cast also starring Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd.
"Starry Night Cinema" is produced by the MACC in association with Maui Film Festival, sponsored by Maui County.
