AARP?Tax-Aide to help with returns

The AARP Tax-Aide program will be offering free tax preparation assistance for low- to-moderate income people around Maui beginning Wednesday.

IRS-trained volunteers will offer advice and prepare returns from 9 a.m. to noon at the following sites:

* Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville, Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday through April 11. By appointment only, call 270-7308. No preparation March 14.

* Kahului Union Church, 101 W. Kamehameha Ave., Rooms 11, 12 and 13, Saturdays, beginning Feb. 4 through April 14. Service is on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not call the church. No preparation April 7.

* West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St., Lahaina, first and third Tuesdays of the month through April 3. Service is by appointment only. Call 661-9432.

* Kihei Community Center, second and fourth Mondays of the month through April 9. Service is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each taxpayer should bring their Social Security card, a form of picture identification, 2010 federal and state tax returns and current tax documents.

Free e-filing is available, and a taxpayer must be present to get a return completed.
