KIHEI -- While the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Thursday night, Maui firefighters continued looking for a 53-year-old Kihei man whose kayak was found Tuesday in waters off Kalepolepo Beach Park.

Kihei firefighters, the Maui Fire Department's Air One helicopter and county ocean safety officers resumed their search Friday morning for Torry Durrell, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Durrell was reported missing by a neighbor shortly after noon Wednesday. His kayak was located in approximately 60 feet of water about 200 yards off Kalepolepo Beach.

The missing man is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 155 pounds, with gray shoulder-length hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police Detective William Gannon at 244-6425.
