FREDA PAYNE TAKES THE STAGE AT MACC

Freda Payne takes the stage at 7:30 tonight at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater as part of the 2012 Maui Invitational Music Festival's tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.; vocalists Sheryl Renee and Clay Mortensen open the show, with Kathy Collins as emcee.

SHERYL RENEE SHOW FOR MLK JR. TRIBUTE

The 2012 Maui Invitational Music Festival's tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. continues with Sheryl Renee and Friends, along with Brian Cuomo on piano performing jazz and pop standards, in concert at 5:30 p.m. in the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's Anuenue Room. Call 283-3576 or visit aecg.org.

'THE OUTSIDERS' WILL OPEN AT KEKAULIKE

The King Kekaulike Drama Club opens "The Outsiders," adapted by Christopher Sergel based on the 1967 coming-of-age novel by teenage author S. E. Hinton, at 7 p.m. at the Upcountry campus.

'BE HERE WOW' WITH WES NISKER IN HAIKU

Studio Maui presents "Be Here Wow" with Wes "Scoop" Nisker, a show hailed by Ram Dass as "fantastic and hilarious," at 7:30 p.m. in Haiku. Featuring a comic monologue with original songs written and performed by Nisker, a Buddhist meditation teacher, author, commentator and performer, the show "explores, the foolish human condition and the joys and sorrows of living in the modern age." MULTIMEDIA 'TALES OF HUMPBACKS' SET

Be entertained by the natural world when Greg Kaufman offers multimedia presentation "Tales of Humpbacks: The Latest Research Discoveries and a Journey to Save Them" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa. Kaufman, whale researcher, author, activist and Pacific Whale Foundation founder and president, will present the latest discoveries about whales via a "riveting multimedia" display that includes photos and video. The event, which kicks off with a no-host cocktail reception at 6 p.m., is free and open to the public. A book signing with Kaufman will follow. JUDY'S GANG: 'DANCE JEOPARDY' AT MACC

Play along with contestants and guess the dance titles to songs performed by local tap and jazz dancers in "Dance Jeopardy" at 7 p.m. at the MACC's Castle Theater. Featuring Judy's Gang of more than 100 dancers from ages 3 to senior, the family-friendly event is choreographed, directed and produced by Judy Ridolfino. Watch songs come alive from greats like Elvis, the Jacksons and others. Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and children, and free for children 5 and younger, plus applicable fees. Martha Graham Dance Company, America's oldest dance company and leader in contemporary dance, takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. at MACC's Castle Theater.

Wednesday, Feb. 8

'YOGAWOMAN' TO SCREEN WITH CLASS

Get bendy with Maui Film Festival's screening of "Yogawoman" and a group yoga class at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MACC's Castle Theater. The film, narrated by Academy Award-nominee Annette Bening, illuminates a new generation of dynamic female yoga teachers as they change the face of yoga around the world. A free yoga class for attendees will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on the A&B Amphitheater lawn, where film fest organizers aim to set a new record for the largest yoga class held in Hawaii.
