MAALAEA - Pacific Whale Foundation recently received an environmental management award from WorkBoat, which has a magazine and online site that provide resources to commercial marine professionals.
The foundation received WorkBoat's Judges Special Recognition Award for Comprehensive Environmental Management through the 2011 WorkBoat Environmental Awards competition.
The award is for initiatives in the marine industry that are over and above regulatory compliance, according to a release.
The foundation noted that the award came from its Green Practices Program, which includes reducing energy usage, responsible wildlife watching, reducing landfill waste and preventing marine debris, and testing and showcasing environmentally sustainable practices that can be used throughout the maritime industry.
As an award winner, Pacific Whale Foundation received recognition in January's issue of WorkBoat magazine.
