Student organizes bone marrow drive

February 5, 2012
The Maui News

Maui High School's Gabrielle Berce organized a bone marrow drive at Kahului Safeway on Jan. 21 for her senior project.

The drive signed up 68 people.

Berce explained that the Bone Marrow Registry does not have enough Asian, Pacific Islander and multiracial people.

Bone marrow matches are partially based on ethnicity, and Hawaii, with its multiethnic population, is an ideal place to diversify the donor list.
