WAILUKU - The 'Aha O Na Mokupuni 'O Maui, Moloka'i Ame Lana'i or Tri-Isle Association United Church of Christ will license its first woman of Micronesian descent as a minister Saturday at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Iao United Church of Christ.

Youlida H. Yoruw will become an authorized minister of the United Church of Christ and serve as the minister for the Micronesian ministry at Iao United Church of Christ.

Yoruw was born in Pohnpei, grew up in Kosrae and moved to Maui to continue her education. Throughout her life, she has been involved with the church and has had a strong faith, including a call to the ministry.

She joined Iao United Church of Christ and began participating in the ministry, which included a tutoring program for Micronesian children. Pastor Jack Belsom and the congregation encouraged her to pursue her call by completing the training to become a licensed minister, according to an announcement of the recognition event. She began her ministry in April.

The service will feature musical offerings by choirs and groups in different languages. Caroline Belsom of Lahaina will give the charge to the congregation, and Dorothy Lester of Lanai will give the charge to the candidate.

This is a service of the association, and a special offering for the scholarship fund will be received.

The United Church of Christ is located at 2371 W. Vineyard St.
