February 15, 2012
The Maui News

WAILUKU - The county is seeking youth community groups and schools interested in joining the "Be a Jerk" underage drinking campaign in April.

Those with ideas for campaigns to be held during Alcohol Awareness Month in April may apply for up to $2,000 in funding.

The deadline to apply for the money to create messages on alcohol and underage drinking prevention is Feb. 22.

Organized locally by the county Housing and Human Concerns Department in collaboration with Maui Economic Opportunity, "Be a Jerk" aims to reduce access to alcohol by changing community practices, knowledge and policies. The project is funded through the state Department of Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.

Return the completed application, along with a signed W9 form to Yuki Lei Sugimura, community organizer for Communities Mobilizing Change on Alcohol. She may be reached by phone at 878-1888 or by email at YukiLei.

Sugimura@gmail.com. Information also is available at the website www.beajerk.org/community-stories.
