I'm writing again about the water issue, specifically about the issue brought up by Council Member Mike Victorino (The Maui News, Feb. 1). It made me take offense because my lawn practically died because I thought, "Well, I needed to conserve."
I'd written about it years ago and will continue to write about it.
My question is: Why is the issue of water conservation still a topic? From my understanding, there is a tiered system now which depends on how much water is used. It also raises the fixed water rates and water usage rate depending on the type of customer.
I like to see green lawns, especially ones that are mowed regularly. I'm sure the county is doing everything it can to best control limited water supplies itself.
I'm writing not to impart blame but ask: Do we need to change the water rates again if the new rates just implemented are not working to conserve water?
