HONOLUA - A 72-year-old woman was rescued from rocks on the south side of Honolua Bay on Saturday afternoon after she became distressed while snorkeling, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
A Napili Fire Station engine crew responded to the 1:05 p.m. alarm to help the woman from Vancouver, British Columbia, Mainaga said. The woman got into trouble while snorkeling and tried to swim to a nearby catamaran. Deckhands helped her reach the rocks, he said.
From there, she was picked up by two lifeguards on a personal watercraft and taken to a landing, he said. Napili firefighters put the patient in an ambulance, which took her to Napili Park, where she was transferred to an air medical helicopter, he said.
The woman was alert and conscious but was having difficulty breathing at the scene, Mainaga said.
