The Maui News
KIHEI – Randall Rospond is a chameleon of creativity. In addition to his audio skills, Rospond has an array of visual art talents, too. The local musician, who plays around the isle solo and with his group, Haiku Hillbillys, will unveil his artwork during a public reception from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at South Shore Tike Lounge in Kihei. Rospond’s exhibition (inset photo shows one illustration), “Liquid Rose Toons,” includes varied styles, mediums and subjects, some “soft, sensitive, spiritual, natural, artistic ... others brash, harsh, urban and even punk ... some skateboarding, some surfing, some psychedelic, some cartoon,” according to the artist. What else? Rospond published a skateboard zine in the early ’80s, was a staff artist for his college paper, assisted in production of a commissioned piece for the 1998 Olympics, and created concert posters, T-shirt designs, commissioned work and business logos for more than 30 years, among many other feats.
