Gabbard plans 'talk story' event Saturday
KAHULUI - Democratic Congressional candidate Tulsi Gabbard will hold a Maui "talk story" event Saturday.
The gathering will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Maui Swap Meet.
Gabbard, who has served in the state House of Representatives and on the Honolulu City Council, is running for the 2nd Congressional District.
Graduate student announces candidacy
KIHEI - Graduate student Kaniela Ing has announced his candidacy for the 11th House District of the state Legislature.
Ing is pursuing his master's degree in public administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He previously served as a Neighborhood Board member in Honolulu, as an aide to Honolulu City Council Member Stanley Chang and as student body president for UH-Manoa as an undergraduate.
Ing will run for the Democratic Party nomination against former South Maui state Rep. Joe Bertram III and Boys & Girls Club of Maui Executive Director Colin Hanlon. The winner is expected to face Republican incumbent Rep. George Fontaine.
Candidates have until June 5 to file nomination papers for state and county races.
