1912 - Last Sunday, a team representing Haiku took the first game of the season from Pauwela. The game was an exciting one, and the score close through all through the nine innings, the rooters for both teams working as hard as the ballplayers.

1937 - Keokea School is sponsoring an entertainment and dance tonight at 7:30. Each classroom is contributing to the party. The Blue Piners' orchestra will furnish the dance music.

1962 - Yoshimi Sakamoto is the boss-to-be of the new Puunene Seagram rum plant, which will commence operations sometime next month. When informed of his selection as rum plant manager Mr. Sakamoto said, "I think they chose the right man. At least I won't drink up the profits. I am a nondrinker."

1987 - Supporters of a Hawaiian language preschool on Maui have set September as the opening month of the school. The school site is at the end of Puunene Avenue, across from the Chart House. The school will be known as Punana Leo.

2002 -The old Lahaina Store, once the pivot of Front Street, will be restored to something like its original appearance by its new owners, Mac Lowson and Leil Koch. The building now houses three small retail shops, but from 1994 to 1999 it was the home of Planet Hollywood.
