KAHULUI - The Valley Isle Keiki Fest with an assortment of activities for children and families, including a fashion show and a bicycle safety challenge, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Great Lawn at the University of Hawaii Maui College.
To celebrate "The Month of the Young Child," this free event promotes a positive, safe and healthy environment for children of all ages. Last year, more than 7,000 people attended the Keiki Fest, and about half were children.
In addition to the food in the Paina Building, there will be cooking demonstrations and a fashion show by 4-H members, a classic car show, bouncing castles, a Keiki Zone and live entertainment with music, hula dancers and taiko drumming.
There will be health and safety booths with vision screening by Walmart, keiki ID cards provided by the Maui Fire Department and a bicycle safety challenge, where children and their parents can learn about the importance of bike safety.
Vendors, crafters and informational booths also will be at the Keiki Fest.
Admission is free.
The event is being organized by the Kiwanis Club of the Valley Isle, 4-H Maui, the county Department of Parks and Recreation, UH-Maui College and the Boys & Girls Club.
