Halperin to run for 11th House seat

WAILUKU - Netra Halperin has announced her candidacy for the 11th House District race, making her the fourth Democrat in an increasingly crowded field of hopefuls looking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. George Fontaine.

Halperin has a background as a social worker and produces the bimonthly show "Netra's News" on Akaku: Maui Community Television. She also previously worked as a legislative aide.

She faces former Rep. Joe Bertram III, Boys & Girls Club of Maui Executive Director Colin Hanlon and graduate student Kaniela Ing in the Democratic race.

Cochran to hold event in Lanai City

LANAI - Maui County Council Member Elle Cochran will visit Lanai for a "talk story" session this month.

The event will be at 9 a.m. April 14 at Canoe's Restaurant in Lanai City. Cochran will discuss county issues and answer questions.
