HONOLULU - The University of Hawaii baseball team was dealt its first Western Athletic Conference defeat of the season on Friday, giving up four runs in the eighth inning of a 5-3 loss to Fresno State at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Rainbows (18-13, 1-1 WAC) squandered leads of 1-0 and 3-1.
Jarrett Arakawa (3-3) allowed all five runs - four earned. He gave up eight hits, struck out eight batters and walked none.
Piikea Kitamura was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for UH.
Pinch hitter Trent Garrison drove in the go-ahead run for the Bulldogs (15-15, 1-1) with an RBI groundout in the eighth.
Justin Haley (4-2) earned the win, and Taylor Garrison pitched the final two innings for his seventh save.
