Whole Foods to support program
KAHULUI - Five percent of net daily sales Wednesday at Whole Foods Market in Kahului will go to the Read Aloud America family literacy program.
Proceeds will help fight funding losses for the statewide organization.
From 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, the program will have an interactive literacy table where children can play a "Roll the Dice" game for a chance to win new books and prizes.

Hirono to speak at Rotary meeting
KIHEI - U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono will give a congressional update to the Rotary Club of Kihei/Wailea from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Hirono will focus on renewable energy, the economy, job creation and strengthening schools.
The meeting will be held at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea.

MEDB accepting event reservations
KIHEI - The Maui Economic Development Board is accepting reservations for its annual Ke Alahele benefit dinner.
The nonprofit's dinner and auction event will be held Aug. 18 at the Grand Wailea. The board will celebrate its 30th anniversary during the event.
Guests will bid on auction items, take part in a robotics challenge and hear presentations from educators. A reception and silent auction will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 6:30 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit MEDB's continued efforts to "engage thousands of the island's residents, involve more of its local businesses and empower thousands of youth - all part of building pathways to meeting the workforce demands of this century," according to an announcement.
Sponsorships for the benefit are available. Event tickets cost $150 per person.
