MIL softball: No-hitter keeps Lunas unbeaten

Morikawa, Nakamura combine to silence King Kekaulike bats

April 8, 2012
The Maui News

Hope Morikawa and Brenna Nakamura combined on a no-hitter Saturday as the Lahainaluna High School softball team showed no sign of a letdown in its first game after clinching the Maui Interscholastic League regular-season Division I title, defeating King Kekaulike 7-0 in Lahaina.

"I had a talk with my girls," said Lunas coach Lei Nakamura, whose team improved to 10-0. "Our focus is I want to get them like they were at the start of the season - that drive, that focus, that excitement to start up again. We don't want to let up."

Morikawa struck out five batters and walked two in five innings. Nakamura had a strikeout and no walks, and also drove in two runs.
