Maui Style opener draws more than 500 wrestlers

Oscar Williams of Lahaina pins Dakota Partney of Central Maui Style in the finals of the 75-pound bantam division during the first tournament of the Maui Style Wrestling season on Saturday at War Memorial Gym. Central won the dual-meet tournament, defeating Lahaina 63-42 in the final. Central won all three of its other dual meets, defeating the Upcountry Cowboys 89-21, the Maui Razorbacks 57-40 and the Napili Surfriders 73-27. The Roughnecks defeated the Kihei Maulers 60-36, the Surfriders 62-33 and the Cowboys 84-13. The Razorbacks won their other two pool dual meets, 64-34 over the Surfriders and 60-43 over the Maulers. The Maulers were 52-37 winners over the Cowboys. The event had more than 500 competitors.
