A Lahaina man was critically injured Sunday when the moped he was operating crashed into a pickup truck that police say failed to yield the right of way on Honoapiilani Highway.
The 1990 Ford F150 pickup was headed north on the highway when the 66-year-old driver from Lahaina turned right onto Wahikuli Road at about 11:30 a.m. Police said the driver turned in front of a Sunny moped headed north on the highway in the bike lane.
As a result, police said, the moped crashed into the right front fender of the pickup truck. The 53-year-old moped operator suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
