We have hardly gotten into the campaign season and already reprehensible acts of swiping and or destroying campaign signs are in full force. Hate crime? Alan Fukuyama, who is running for the County Council's Kahului residency seat, has had his signs stolen or destroyed in Paia and, most especially, in Kahului.
He is doing everything as is required under the law pertaining to campaign signs, so what is the beef? If it is happening to Alan, it can happen to other candidates. This is so not the Maui style - more like the Mainland or some Third World country.
Please, to whoever is doing these vicious acts, go get your thrills elsewhere. If you don't like Alan, then don't vote for him. But spare his freedom of speech rights and quit engaging in what looks like a hate crime.
