The Maui News

KAHULUI - The Portuguese Association of Maui will be selling bean soup and malassadas on Saturday at Hoaloha Park from 9 a.m. to noon.

The soup sells for $10 a quart, and the malassadas are $5 for seven.

Portuguese pickled onions also will be sold for $5 for a half-pound container.

All proceeds will benefit the association's scholarship fund.

Presale reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 877-0123 or 243-0065.

The association has been awarding scholarships since 2003. The group is currently about $500 short of the goal, which led to the second fundraiser for the scholarship fund, said President Audrey Guerrero.
