Morikawa, Lunas edge Sabers

Hope Morikawa threw a one-hit shutout and drove in the lone run of the game in the seventh inning as the Lahainaluna High School softball team defeated Maui High 1-0 on Wednesday at the Lunas' field.

Chalice Dela Cruz doubled off Samantha Ohigashi with one out in the bottom of the seventh to bring up Morikawa, who had surrendered just one single with no walks from the pitcher's circle. The Lunas ace hit a single to left field to bring home Dela Cruz and keep Maui Interscholastic League champion Lahainaluna undefeated at 11-0.

Morikawa finished with three strikeouts.

Ohigashi kept pace with Morikawa throughout the game, surrendering four hits, three walks and a hit batter with three strikeouts for the Sabers (1-10).

* BALDWIN 14, KAMEHAMEHA MAUI 1, 5 INNINGS: At Kahului, Alyssa Ariyoshi pitched a three-hitter as Baldwin finished its regular season with a 9-3 record.

The Bears' Kylie Rose Dickson was 3-for-4 with two runs, and Skylynne Ellazar drove in three runs and scored two.

Kamehameha Maui fell to 2-9.
