Bears edge Sabers in eight innings

Noah Apolo hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Baldwin High School baseball team a 2-1 extra-inning victory over Maui High on Thursday night at Maehara Stadium.

Apolo also pitched a complete game, striking out seven while giving up just one run on five hits and a walk to help the Bears (9-1) move one win away from clinching the Maui Interscholastic League Division I regular-season title.

Isaiah Maddela batted 2-for-3 and Aaron Victorino drove in Baldwin's other run in the fifth inning.

Sabers starter Noah Kolish went the distance, giving up nine hits and a pair of walks while striking out eight.

Jacob Tiu tripled and scored the lone run for Maui High (7-3) in the first inning, driven in on a sacrifice fly by Mark Karaviotis, who finished 2-for-3 with a double.

* LAHAINALUNA 2, KAMEHAMEHA MAUI 1: At Maehara Stadium, Kaimana Ancog held Kamehameha Maui to two hits and one run as Lahainaluna improved to 3-8.
