Intent of original letter twisted in response

April 14, 2012
The Maui News

An April 7 letter writer who wrote in response to my March 28 letter either did not understand the point of my original letter or decided to spin it to fortify his own view.

My letter in no way, shape or form suggested that teachers should be ministers for our children. It pointed out how some have taken quotes from history out of context and and twisted the meaning to support their own agenda.

What I find more frightening is that the letter writer, a former school teacher by admission, twisted the intent of my original letter. My original point was to put into context the well-known saying of Thomas Jefferson's wall of separation between church and state quote. If teachers can't even get their history right, why would I want them teaching my child about God?
