Panel to discuss ag property tax
WAILUKU - The Maui County Council Budget and Finance Committee will meet Monday to discuss legislation to address agricultural property tax equity.
The committee will continue its discussion of a bill that would require the taxable value of home sites to be assessed the same way on agricultural lands as in residential areas. Other measures to address inequities in how agricultural properties are taxed may also be discussed.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the eighth-floor Council Chambers of the Kalana O Maui building.

Meeting to focus on anniversary events
WAILUKU - A meeting to plan Baldwin High School's 75th anniversary celebration will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the school library.
The anniversary festivities will be held in October 2013.

Distance-learning workshop Tuesday
KAHULUI - The University of Hawaii Center will host a workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the variety of degree options available as well as certification programs.
Prospective students will have the opportunity to ask questions about UH distance-learning programs in Laulima 102 on the UH-Maui College campus.
UH distance programs include master's degrees in human resource management, executive master's of business administration and a post-baccalaureate certificate in education; and bachelor's degrees in business administration, accounting, psychology, nursing, disaster preparedness and emergency management, and health care administration.

Maui Island Plan to be discussed
KIHEI - The Maui Island Plan will be discussed at Tuesday's meeting of the Kihei Community Association.
County Council Member Don Couch, Planning Director Will Spence, Long Term Planning Chief John Summers, planning consultant Chris Hart and a representative of the nonprofit group Faith Action for Community Equity will discuss the plan with community members.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Kihei Charter Middle School, 41 E. Lipoa St. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the Maui Food Bank.
