* BASKETBALL

May 11-The Harlem Globetrotters will play a game at War Memorial Gym on May 11, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 each, and can be purchased in person at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center box office, via phone by calling 242-7469 or online at mauiarts.org.

June 4-8-The Basketball Maui/NBC Basketball Camp for boys and girls age 8-18 is scheduled for June 4-8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at gyms in Central Maui and West Maui. The fee is $145.00, which also pays for a ball, T-shirt and admission to the "Night of Shooting Stars" at the Lahaina Civic Center. NBA players are to appear at the camp. Bus service from Kihei will be offered. Forms are available at basketballmaui.com, and in-person registration for West Maui is scheduled for 8-11 a.m. on May 5 at the Lahaina Civic Center. June 9-Basketball Maui's "Night of Shooting Stars," an event that will include a concert by Christafari and two exhibition games, including one with NBA players, is scheduled for June 9 at the Lahaina Civic Center. The concert is to begin at 3 p.m., and the games at 5 and 8. Tickets cost $10 in advance, and $15 at the door, or $5 in advance and $8 at the door for the concert only. June 9-Tryouts for the Maui Sports Academy College Summer Men's League are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 9 at the Lahaina Civic Center. The league is open to current high school players, current and former college players and Maui's top adult-league players. Games will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays at the Lahaina Civic Center. Preseason scrimmages will begin June 14, and the season is scheduled for June 16-July 21. June 10-The Maui Youth Basketball League summer season, for boys and girls 6-15, is scheduled for June 10-July 15. Applications will be accepted Thursday through April 22. The fee is $20. June 18-22-The Hawaii High School Basketball Exposure Camp, for boys varsity-level players, is scheduled for June 18-22 at the Lahaina Civic Center. The fee is $425 for participants who bring their own air mattress or futon, and $450 for those requiring bedding from the camp. Financial assistance will be available through MySportsDreams.com. * CYCLING

April 28-29-The second annual Maui Stage Race cycling competitions are scheduled for April 28-29. The first stage, a 25-kilometer time trial, and the second stage, a criterium lasting 30 to 60 minutes, are scheduled for April 28 in Central Maui - the time trial is to begin at 6:30 a.m., the criterium at 2 p.m. The third stage, an Upcountry road race of 35-50 miles, is scheduled for April 29, starting at 6:30 a.m. The registration fee, for all three races, is $150 until April 25, and $175 after that date. April 23-The deadline to register for Maui Junior Golf Association's benefit tournament is April 23. The tournament is scheduled for April 29 at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course. Check-in is to begin at 5:30 a.m., with a 6:30 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee for the two-person scramble is $100, which also pays for greens fees, use of a cart, refreshments and a luncheon and entry into closest-to-the-hole and hole-in-one contests. April 25-The deadline to register for U.S. Open local qualifying at the King Kamehameha Course is April 25. Local qualifying is scheduled for May 12. Sectional qualifiers are scheduled for June 4 on the Mainland, and the tournament is scheduled for June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. April 28-The Maui Women's Golf Championship, sponsored by Jim Sanders Realty, is scheduled for April 28 at Maui Country Club, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament is open to amateur women golfers, at least 18 years old, who are residents of Maui. All participants must have a current GHIN handicap. The $60 entry fee pays for greens fees, use of cart, the awards luncheon at Maui Country Club immediately following play and entry into competition for prizes. May 9-The deadline to register for U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links qualifying at Kaanapali is May 9. Qualifying is scheduled for May 28, and the tournament for July 5-8 at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis. Entries can be completed at champs.usga.org/index.html.

May 23-The deadline to register for U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifying at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course is May 23. Qualifying is scheduled for June 16, and the tournament for July 9-14 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah. Entries can be completed at champs.usga.org/index.html.

May 30-The deadline to register for U.S. Girls Junior qualifying at the Wailea Old Blue Course is May 30. Qualifying is scheduled for June 19, and the tournament for July 16-21 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. Entries can be completed at champs.usga.org/index.html.

May 30-The deadline to register for U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying at the Wailea Old Blue Course is May 30. Qualifying is scheduled for June 19-20, and the tournament for July 16-21 at the Golf Club of New England in Stratham, N.H. Entries can be completed at champs.usga.org/index.html.

June 8-The deadline to register for U.S. Senior Open qualifying at Kaanapali is June 8. Qualifying is scheduled for June 17, and the tournament for July 12-15 at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich. Entries can be completed at champs.usga.org/index.html.

July 1-The deadline to register for the Kings Cathedral Sports Ministry Scramble Golf Classic is July 1. The tournament is scheduled for July 14 at The Dunes at Maui Lani, with a 7 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee for the two-person modified scramble is $100 per golfer, which also pays for use of a cart, an awards banquet and entry into competitions for prizes, including a hole-in-one contest in which a Harley-Davidson motorcycle will be available. * MOTOR SPORTS

April 28-Stock car racing is scheduled for April 28 at Paradise Speedway Maui's oval track at the Maui Motorsports Park. Gates will open at 3 p.m., and competition will start at 7 p.m. Admission will cost 10 for anyone 13 and over, $2 for youths 6-12 and free for youths 5 and under. Contact: paradisespeedwaymaui.com.

* PADDLING

May 10-The deadline to register for the OluKai Hoolaulea paddling races is May 10, with competition races from Maliko Gulch to Kanaha Beach Park scheduled for May 12-13. The standup race is to begin at noon on May 12, and the OC-1 race at noon on May 13. The events have a total purse of $15,000. A nontimed paddle is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 12 from the Paia Youth and Cultural Center to Kanaha. Registration for all events can be completed at olukai.com. Registration must be completed by May 4 for a premium entry that includes a dinner, jersey and pair of sandals. A free three-mile fun paddle in preparation for the Hoolaulea is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 28 starting at the Paia Bay Cultural and Youth Center and finishing at Kanaha Beach Park. Participants should arrive by 8 a.m.

* RUNNING

April 22-The Maui 5K for Kids, a fundraiser for county schools, is scheduled for 7 a.m. on April 22, starting at the Maalaea Triangle and ending at Hauoli Street in Wailuku. A one-mile run/walk is to begin at approximately 7:15 a.m. Registration can be completed online for $21.50 at maui5k.org until Friday. Mail-in entries are $25, and must be sent by Tuesday. After that date, registration can be completed for $35 at the packet pick-up, scheduled for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday at The Sports Authority at Maui Marketplace. Contact: info@maui5k.org.

May 5-The Valley Isle Road Runners' fifth annual Na Holo Wahine 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for May 5, starting at 8 a.m. next to the Kanaloa Street skate park. Race applications are available at virr.com, Kihei Sporting Goods and at the Maui Family YMCA. Packet pick-up and late registration is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. at Kihei Sporting Goods on May 4. On race day, participants can begin signing in at 7 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Imua Family Services. Contact: 875-0178.

May 31-The entry deadline for the No Ka Oi Soccer Tournament is May 31, with games scheduled for June 20-23 at the Eddie Tam Complex. Boys and girls teams from under-8 to under-19 are eligible. The registration fee is $375 for under-8 teams, $400 for under-9 teams, $425 for under-10 teams, $475 for under-12 teams, $500 for under-14 teams and $550 for others. June 1-The deadline to register for the Hershey's Track and Field Games Maui state final is June 1, with competition scheduled for 4-7:30 p.m. on June 15 at Yamamoto Track & Field Facility. * TRIATHLON

June 10-The South Maui Tri-athlon is scheduled for 6 a.m. on June 10. The event consists of a 1.5-kilometer ocean swim, 40-kilometer bicycle leg and 10-kilometer run. The entry fees before June 2 are $120 for individuals and $165 for teams. After that, and until June 5, the fees will be $145 for individuals and $185 for teams. The fees include a one-day USA Triathlon membership, which will be refunded with proof of membership. Registration can be completed at southmauitriathlon.com. The event is also accepting volunteers.
