State’s reported drone use is not allowed

April 16, 2012
The Maui News

I don't watch local news on TV, so maybe I just missed this one. Nor have I seen it in The Maui News or other Hawaii publications online. CNN.com reports that the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation spent $75,000 on an aerial drone to help provide security for Honolulu Harbor.

The problem arises with the FAA and Honolulu airport. The port is within the airport's security perimeter and, therefore, the drone can't be utilized by the state. We need to expect better from our state leadership.
