JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Baldwin High School graduate Jojo Dickson signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, marking the second time the team has acquired the linebacker as a free agent.
"I just plan on showing them that I'm not the old me," the 22-year-old said. "I want to show that I've recovered and improved from where I was a year ago."
Dickson's senior season at Idaho was cut short when he suffered a broken ankle in October of 2010. He went undrafted the following April, then, after the NFL lockout ended, he signed with the Jaguars in July - the team let him go a few days later.
"I've been training, trying to recover and just sort of improve on my skills from my ankle break," Dickson said. "I chose to go back and train at the facility at the University of Idaho. Being there, a small town, not much distractions, not a lot of food I like to eat, I could really be focused on what I needed to do."
Dickson took part in Idaho's pro day in March. According the the school's athletic website, he bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times, had a vertical leap of 43 1/2 inches, a standing broad jump of 10-7 1/2 and a time of 6.89 seconds in the three-cone drill.
"I got call a from the Jaguars a week later, saying they wanted a minicamp workout in May, and a week later they called again and I signed," Dickson said.
Dickson played in seven games for the Vandals as a senior, and had 34 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. In 41 total college games, he had 182 tackles - 12 1/2 for loss, including three sacks - as well as three interceptions, a forced fumble and two recoveries.
