The Maui News

LAHAINA - The 50th anniversary of Lahaina Restoration Foundation will be celebrated at the organization's 49th annual meeting from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the historic Pioneer Mill Co. smokestack.

The $20 ticket price includes parking, admission and a breakfast buffet. Reservations and payment are required in advance. For tickets or more information, call 661-3262.

President David Allaire will lead a short business meeting to start the event, which will include a tribute to docent Millie Kahahane, who is retiring after 44 years. The Free Church of Tonga's youth choir will perform.

Scholarships will be awarded to 17 graduating seniors and alumni of Lahainaluna High School. Executive Director Theo Morrison will speak on 2011 achievements and goals for 2012.

The smokestack is among 11 major historic structures in Lahaina maintained by the organization. It also preserves collections of artifacts, manuscripts, maps and other materials representing Lahaina's history.

Those attending the meeting can view the third phase of a commemorative brick path surrounding the smokestack. A fourth phase is under way, and bricks are being sold for the fifth phase.
