SAN JOSE, Calif. - Zack Swasey hit his first home run of the season, Jarrett Arakawa retired 13 straight batters and the University of Hawaii baseball team topped San Jose State 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
The Rainbows recorded 10 or more hits for the 11th time this season, and improved to 23-15 overall and 4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Spartans dropped to 18-16, and 3-2 in league play.
Arakawa (5-3) allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings of work.
Swasey hit a solo homer in the sixth. Trevor Podratz was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Stephen Ventimilia added a pair of hits for UH, which scored three runs in the fifth inning to win its fifth straight series against San Jose State.
Brent Harrison collected his sixth save in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Jason Kafka (1-1) was the losing pitcher.
The teams conclude the three-game series today.
