Council recommendation is insulting to voters

April 24, 2012
The Maui News

I read the April 20 article "Council members recommending most charter proposals get axed" with total disgust. Back when the Charter Commission decided to limit the number of proposed amendments because the voters were not capable enough to decide the 20-plus amendments they had, I was mildly insulted just as you should have been. I dare say, we are every bit as smart as they.

The Maui News printed this article wherein the council is concerned "that voters could become overwhelmed if all 11 proposed amendments were included on the ballot." Needless to say, I was highly insulted, as you should have been too. After all, the ballot always includes more than 11 decisions to be made and we're smart enough to not be overwhelmed with them. Truth be told, council members' stand is once again an attempt to maintain the status quo.

But, after giving it some thought, I realized that they must surely be right. After all, we were dumb enough to elect them. They just insulted us once again. Get mad, people. Vote against the incumbents if you want progress.
