KAHULUI - The 10th annual Pacific Islander Worship Arts Institute Conference, hosted by Pacific Arise Ministries, will be held today and Saturday at Kahului Union Church.
The weekend starts with a potluck tonight at Kahului Union Church at 6. The evening is a time of sharing and for ministries to get to know each other.
On Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be free workshops at Kahului Union Church for the public ending in communion. Some of guest leaders will include kupuna Audrey Kalehuawe, Lita Catiel, Maria Davis, 'Anake Noelani Kaleopaa, Jill Paresa, Uilani Purdy, Maui coordinator and director of Pacific Arise Ministries; Zennie Sawer; Tahitian Pastor Gerard and Tarita Tehotu and Kahu Wendell Davis, Daniel Kikawa and Rennie Mau, executive director of Pacific Arise.
Ho'ike, a time for the ministries to share worship, will be held Saturday, beginning at 5:30.
The church ministries participating are: Aloha ke Akua Ministries, Beit Shalom Maui, Calvary Chapel Honolulu, Grace Church, Hilo Missionary Church, Halau Hula o Na 'Elele o ke Akua, Hope Chapel, House of Prayer Maui, In His House of Restoration, Kahului Union Church, Kahikolu Church, Big Island; Koloa Union Church, Kauai; Living Way Church, Maui Marshallese Ministry, Na Po'e Wahine O ke Akua, New Hope Maui and Po'okela Church.
The gathering is free, though donations will be accepted to help defray expenses.
The evening worship is under the stars on the outside lawn, and those attending are urged to bring a mat or lawn chair, a sweater and a flashlight and to wear light-colored clothing.
The Pacific Islander Worship Arts Institute Ho'ike is sponsored by Pacific Arise Ministries and the Institute for Indigenous Studies, U.S. Center for World Ministries. Kahului Union Church is located at 100 Kamehameha Ave.
